new mexico shares the second shortest distance of border with mexico with nearly all of the landscape along the border being comprised of desert scenery.
of the 4 states that i’ve documented, new mexico has had the least amount of activity that i’ve witnessed in my time down there. perhaps that’s due to the landscape, the weather or other contributing factors, but it has still had it’s exciting moments.
When i first started this documentary journey back in 2021, the first ever crossing that i witnessed happened when a coyote scaled the border wall using a hook and rope to pull himself over the wall and drop down into new mexico. when border patrol responded the coyote went back over the wall to escape into mexico where gun shots were fired by the coyote at border patrol.
it should be noted that this was back in 2021, when the operating procedures by border patrol were much different than what i’ve witnessed in subsequent years.
